John Seymour’s Filmography

John Seymour is an Anishinaabe actor and Band Member of Peguis First Nation, based in Winnipeg and working across Canada. This November, he plays Jay Little in Niizh by Joelle Peters at Magnus Theatre in Thunder Bay, directed by Richard Comeau.

On screen, he appears in the feature Aberdeen (TIFF, dir. Ryan Cooper & Eva Thomas), Seasons 3, 4 & 5 of Acting Good (APTN/CTV Comedy), and Ghost Lands, plus award-winning shorts including Don’t Look @ Me and Unless You Have Been There. He has trained with Prairie Theatre Exchange, Broccolo Creative, and Working Actors Studio (LA) and is a 2025 NSI CBC New Indigenous Voices graduate and an ACTRA member with Jay Treaty eligibility for work in the United States.

John’s family ties are to Peguis First Nation and Seymourville, just outside Hollow Water First Nation. Seymourville is the place he keeps coming back to as a storyteller, and is the name and setting of the short film he is developing now.

Alongside acting, John directs and produces through Let’s Go Seymour Films. His debut, Stay Awhile, grew out of the 2024 Skodoodisden Project, the Indigenous filmmaker incubator he helped lead through the Winnipeg Indigenous Filmmakers Collective. It has screened across Canada and the United States, including at the Red Nation International Film Festival in Los Angeles, Pocahontas Reframed in Virginia, Hobnobben in Indiana, Gimli International Film Festival, and the Ācimowin Film Festival in Saskatoon.

He also works in film and television production, as 1st Assistant Director and Pre-Production Coordinator on Rezervations for Two (Animiki See Productions/APTN) and Production Coordinator on APTN’s Saturday Night Hockey in Cree & Inuktitut broadcasts. Knowing a set from the inside makes him a better actor and a better collaborator.
